Subtopic: Jesus Is Calling—Slow Down and Listen
Psalm 46:10 – "Be still, and know that I am God: I will be exalted among the heathen, I will be exalted in the earth."
In Tevin Campbell’s song “Can We Talk,” the lyrics express the frustration of wanting to connect with someone but feeling like something is always in the way. Life keeps moving, responsibilities pile up, and suddenly, the moment to speak is lost. Isn’t that exactly what happens in our relationship with Jesus?
The world is constantly demanding our attention, pulling us in every direction. Work, family, commitments—all of it keeps us so busy that we don’t even realize we are missing Jesus calling us. He is always reaching out, always speaking, but if we never pause, how can we truly hear Him?
The Danger of Moving Too Fast
Society teaches us that busyness equals productivity—that if we keep pushing forward, success will follow. But Jesus doesn’t call us to never-ending movement; He calls us to intimacy with Him.
Matthew 16:26 – "For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?"
What is the point of achieving earthly success if it costs us our closeness with God?
Like the song describes, we often regret missing the chance to connect, wishing we had spoken sooner. But unlike human relationships, Jesus never stops inviting us to know Him.
Jesus Is Calling Us to Pause
Throughout His ministry, Jesus repeatedly urged people to slow down and spend time with Him. Even when surrounded by crowds, He focused on personal conversations and deep connections.
Matthew 11:28 – "Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest."
His invitation is personal—He doesn’t want rushed moments or half-hearted prayers; He wants real relationship, real conversation, real time spent together.
How Can We Make Time for Jesus?
1. Prioritize Daily Prayer
Prayer is not just asking for things—it’s a conversation with God.
Jeremiah 29:13 – "And ye shall seek me, and find me, when ye shall search for me with all your heart."
The deeper we seek Him, the more we hear His voice.
2. Study the Word Without Distraction
Scripture is God’s way of revealing Himself to us.
Psalm 119:105 – "Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path."
We need to set aside intentional time to reflect on His truth.
3. Remove Unnecessary Distractions
The enemy wants to keep us too busy to seek Jesus.
Luke 10:41-42 – "Martha, Martha, thou art careful and troubled about many things: But one thing is needful: and Mary hath chosen that good part."
Like Mary, we must choose time with Jesus over distractions.
Jesus Wants a Real Relationship with You
If life keeps getting in the way, stop and listen—He is calling you.
John 17:3 – "And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent."
Eternal life isn’t about achievements—it’s about knowing Him intimately.
Let’s slow down, be still, and truly answer His call.
