Matthew 19:26 is one of the most powerful verses in the Bible, offering believers encouragement and assurance that God's power transcends all limitations. This study will explore the context, meaning, and application of this verse in our lives, showing how faith in God enables us to overcome obstacles and experience His miracles.
Matthew 19:26 (NIV)
"Jesus looked at them and said, ‘With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.’"
1. Understanding the Context of Matthew 19:26
Before Jesus makes this statement, He encounters a rich young ruler who asks how he can inherit eternal life. Jesus tells him to obey the commandments, and the man replies that he has done so. Then, Jesus challenges him further:
Matthew 19:21-22
"Jesus answered, ‘If you want to be perfect, go, sell your possessions and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me.’ When the young man heard this, he went away sad, because he had great wealth."
The disciples, witnessing this exchange, wonder how anyone can be saved if even a faithful, wealthy man struggles to obey. Jesus then responds with the profound truth in Matthew 19:26—that while salvation may seem impossible by human standards, God makes it possible.
2. What Does "With God All Things Are Possible" Mean?
This statement is both a promise and a challenge. It reveals the limitlessness of God's power and reminds us that human effort alone is insufficient. Here’s what it means for believers:
Salvation Comes from God, Not Human Works
The rich young ruler thought righteousness could be earned through good deeds, but Jesus pointed him toward complete trust in God.
This verse breaks the mindset that salvation depends solely on human effort. Instead, it is a gift from God.
God's Power Transcends Human Limitations
What seems impossible from a human perspective is completely possible with God.
This applies to healing, provision, restoration, breakthroughs, and miracles.
Faith Unlocks God's Possibilities
When we trust in God, we step into His unlimited ability rather than our own limitations.
This verse challenges us to believe beyond what we see.
3. Other Scriptures That Confirm God's Limitless Power
The Bible repeatedly affirms that God’s power is greater than our limitations:
Jeremiah 32:27
"I am the Lord, the God of all mankind. Is anything too hard for Me?"
** Answer: No! God's power exceeds every human challenge.
Mark 9:23
"Everything is possible for one who believes."
** Answer: Faith in God opens the door to miracles!
Luke 1:37
"For no word from God will ever fail."
** Answer: Every promise He has made will come to pass.
4. Applying Matthew 19:26 in Our Daily Lives
** Trusting God in Difficult Circumstances
Life often presents challenges that seem impossible—financial struggles, broken relationships, health crises.
Instead of focusing on limitations, this verse reminds us to lean on God’s supernatural ability.
** Overcoming Fear and Doubt
When fear tells us “this will never work”, Matthew 19:26 says, “with God, it will.”
Faith conquers fear and transforms impossibilities into victories.
** Praying Boldly for Miracles
Knowing that all things are possible, believers can pray boldly for healing, breakthrough, and transformation.
Instead of doubting, we should declare: "God, I trust You to do what seems impossible!"
5. Strengthening Our Faith in God’s Power
A. Believe Beyond Your Circumstances
Instead of looking at the natural obstacles, focus on God’s supernatural ability.
Like Abraham, who believed despite impossibility (Romans 4:18-21).
B. Declare God’s Promises Over Your Life
Speak faith-filled declarations over your situation.
Example: “Because God said it, I believe it. His power will prevail.”
C. Stay Rooted in Prayer and Worship
Faith grows when we spend time in God’s presence.
Prayer and worship activate miracles.
6. A Declaration of Faith: I Will Trust That With God, All Things Are Possible!
I declare that God’s power is greater than any challenge I face!
I will not be limited by fear, doubt, or circumstances—I will trust in God’s promises.
What seems impossible in my life today is possible through Him!
Because Jesus said it, I believe it—With God, ALL things are possible!
In Jesus' name, Amen!
