The name of Jesus carries unparalleled power, authority, and salvation. From the Old Testament prophecies to His miraculous works in the New Testament, Jesus is the name above all names, the one who saves, heals, and restores. Understanding the significance of His name is vital to deepening our faith and strengthening our relationship with Him.

The Name Foretold in Prophecy

Long before Jesus walked the earth, His coming was prophesied by prophets who spoke of His divine purpose. Isaiah 7:14 declares, "Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign: The virgin will conceive and give birth to a son, and will call him Immanuel." Immanuel means "God with us," signifying that Jesus would embody God's presence among His people.

Additionally, Isaiah 9:6 describes His glorious titles: "For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And He will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace." These names reveal the depth of Jesus' character—He is our guide, protector, eternal source of love, and bringer of peace.

Salvation in His Name

Jesus' name itself means "The Lord Saves." In Matthew 1:21, the angel told Joseph, "She will give birth to a son, and you are to give Him the name Jesus, because He will save His people from their sins." Jesus is the only name by which humanity can receive salvation. Acts 4:12 affirms this truth: "Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to mankind by which we must be saved."

The saving power of Jesus is demonstrated through His crucifixion and resurrection. By dying on the cross and rising again, He conquered sin and death, offering eternal life to all who believe in Him (John 3:16). Calling upon His name in faith brings redemption and the promise of eternity with God.

Healing and Miracles Through His Name

Jesus' name is not only associated with salvation but also healing and miracles. Throughout His ministry, people witnessed incredible acts of healing and restoration. When blind Bartimaeus cried out, "Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!" (Mark 10:47), his sight was restored by Jesus’ compassionate touch.

Even after His ascension, His name continued to work miracles. In Acts 3:6, Peter told a lame man, "Silver or gold I do not have, but what I do have I give you. In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, walk." Immediately, the man was healed and began walking and praising God. The power of Jesus' name remains active, bringing healing and breakthrough to all who call upon Him in faith.

Authority in His Name

Jesus' name holds divine authority. Before His return to heaven, He assured His disciples, "All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to Me" (Matthew 28:18). That authority extends to every believer who calls upon His name. In Luke 10:19, Jesus proclaimed, "I have given you authority to trample on snakes and scorpions and to overcome all the power of the enemy; nothing will harm you."

Spiritual battles are won through the name of Jesus. When we face challenges, whether they be temptation, fear, or opposition, calling on His name allows us to stand firm in victory. Philippians 2:9-10 further emphasizes Jesus' supreme authority: "God exalted Him to the highest place and gave Him the name that is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth."
