What Does It Mean to Remain in the Faith?

The Apostle Paul exhorts believers in Colossians 2:6-7: "As you therefore have received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in Him, rooted and built up in Him and established in the faith, as you have been taught, abounding in it with thanksgiving."

To remain in the faith means:

Paul warns in 2 Timothy 4:3-4: "For the time will come when people will not endure sound doctrine, but according to their own desires, they will gather teachers to say what they want to hear, turning away from truth to myths."

We live in a time where many distort the gospel, where false teachers promote compromise, self-gratification, and deception. But sound doctrine is not based on opinion—it is based on the unchanging truth of God’s Word.

To remain in sound doctrine means:

How Do We Remain in Faith and Doctrine?

1. Stay Anchored in the Word of God

"Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path." — Psalm 119:105

God’s Word illuminates truth. If we do not remain in the Word, we become vulnerable to deception. Daily study, meditation, and application of Scripture secure our foundation.

2. Develop a Consistent Prayer Life

Prayer is our lifeline to God. It strengthens our faith, brings clarity, and aligns our hearts with His will. Remaining steadfast in prayer ensures that we walk in spiritual discernment.

3. Guard Against False Teachings and Deception

"Test all things; hold fast to what is good." — 1 Thessalonians 5:21

The enemy thrives on distorted truths, watered-down theology, and deception. We must remain vigilant, test every teaching against God’s Word, and refuse to accept anything that contradicts Scripture.
