Romans 8:38-39 (KJV) – "For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life... nor things present, nor things to come, nor height, nor depth... shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord."
Maybe you’ve messed up. Maybe you’ve fallen into something you never thought you’d do. Maybe regret weighs heavy, and now you wonder, “Does God still love me?”
The answer is YES. Absolutely, without a doubt, God still loves you. His love is not based on your perfection—it is based on His nature, which is unchanging and unconditional.
Throughout the Bible, people failed, messed up, and made terrible mistakes, but God still pursued them, forgave them, and used them for His glory. If He did it for them, He can do it for you too. As I am writing this lesson, I can recall the many, many, many, many times I have messed up. Yet, in the midst of those mistakes, God still protected me through His love. All these years later, He is using me to reach you and share His message of redemption.
Biblical Examples of People Who Messed Up But Were Still Used by God
1. David – He Fell Into Sin, But God Restored Him
David was called "a man after God's own heart" (Acts 13:22), but he still sinned terribly. He committed adultery with Bathsheba and arranged for her husband to be killed (2 Samuel 11). His actions were wrong, deceitful, and caused immense pain. Yet, when he repented, God forgave him and restored him.
David’s story proves that no sin is too big for God's forgiveness. Despite his failure, God still used him to write Psalms, lead Israel, and fulfill prophecy through Jesus Christ being born from his lineage.
2. Peter – He Denied Jesus, But God Redeemed Him
Peter was one of Jesus' closest disciples, yet in a moment of fear, he denied knowing Jesus three times (Luke 22:61-62). He swore he would never betray Christ, but when pressure came, he failed.
After Jesus rose from the dead, He didn’t reject Peter—instead, He restored him and called him to lead the early church (John 21:15-17). Peter became one of the greatest apostles, preaching the gospel and helping thousands come to Christ.
If failure could have disqualified Peter, it would have. But God’s love and forgiveness turned his story around.
3. Paul – He Persecuted Christians, But God Transformed Him
Paul (formerly Saul) wasn’t just a sinner—he actively hunted Christians, arrested them, and approved of their deaths (Acts 9:1-2). He was an enemy of the church, yet God met him, forgave him, and turned him into one of the most influential leaders of all time.
Paul went on to write much of the New Testament, plant churches, and lead countless people to salvation. His past did not stop God's purpose—God used him despite his mistakes.
4. The Prodigal Son – He Ran Away, But The Father Welcomed Him Back
Jesus told the story of a young man who ran from his father, wasted his inheritance, and ruined his life (Luke 15:11-32). At his lowest moment, he realized he needed to return home.
Instead of rejecting him, his father ran to him, embraced him, and restored him. This story reflects God’s heart—He is always ready to receive His children back, no matter how far they’ve gone.
God’s Love Remains Even When You Fall
Psalm 103:12 (KJV) – "As far as the east is from the west, so far hath he removed our transgressions from us."
God does not hold your failures over you. When you truly repent, He wipes your sin away and welcomes you back.
Maybe you’ve messed up. Maybe guilt is weighing you down. But remember—God’s love is greater than your mistake.
Your failure is not final. If you turn to God, He will forgive, restore, and use you for His glory.
